Collection: Belgian Flax Linen

Our Belgian Flax Linen is imported and woven in Cape Town.  The linen is laundered and delivered to our experienced CMT team, who are experts at working with the extremely technical fabric.  Linen moves, it is like a living, breathing fabric.  Before cutting out a pillow or a duvet or a sheet, the CMT pulls a thread and follows the grain of the fabric.  Picture this process over 2.8m wide pieces of linen and you can appreciate that Belgian Linen is a labour of love.

The long-staple Belgian flax is internationally recognised as the benchmark fibre for premium linen.  The extended fibre length results in a yarn with superior tensile strength, reduced piling and long term structural integrity.   

Belgian flax linen is inherently breathable and highly absorbent, capable of absorbing up to 20% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp.  This allows for effective thermoregulation, keeping the body cool in warm conditions and comfortably insulated in cooler temperatures.  The open weave promotes airflow, reducing heat retention and supporting consistent sleep temperature.

The fibre's natural resilience allows linen to soften progressively with laundering while maintaining dimensional stability.  Unlike shorter-fibre linens, high quality Belgian Flax does not break down or thin prematurely, making it particularly suited to high use items such as duvet covers, flat sheets and pillowcases.

Flax grown in Belgium and Northern Europe requires minimal irrigation and little to no chemical treatment.  The entire plant is utilised in processing, resulting in a low-waste, biodegradable textile with a significantly lower environmental impact than cotton.
